STEVE EARLE

STEVE EARLE is an American singer-songwriter primarily known for his rock and country music as well as his political views.  He is also an actor who played in three seasons of HBO’s THE WIRE; an activist who puts his money where his mouth is on issues like capital punishment; he has written and directed a play, published a book of short stories, has a forthcoming novel, has appeared on numerous episodes of Law & Order, and is, of course, a 13 time Grammy nominee and 2 time winner.

INNOVATORS IN MUSIC caught up with Steve in Knoxville, Tennessee on a hot summer day in June of 2009.  In a remarkably candid, open and honest interview Steve addresses many of the subjects related to his passions: songwriting, music, history, politics, American identity, Joe Strummer, the elusive nature of art and love, his novel, Hank Williams, and the death penalty.  Not to mention Charlie Parker, heroin, jail, addiction and what 7 marriages can do to a guy.

Steve’s solo performance that night was something special. Lucky for us INNOVATORS was there to capture it in stunning HD!

Later, INNOVATORS spent an afternoon in Mr. Earle’s new neighbourhood in NYC’s Greenwich Village.  Steve visits a legendary guitar store and talks shop!  Steve goes to Murry’s for a sandwich and discusses the finer points of celebrity watching at pizza parlors!  Enjoy Steve Earle in his element, loose and free like you’ve never seen him before!

Watch as the live show blends with Mr. Earle’s commentary and begin to sense a rare and inside look at how the songs and ideas of a unique artist come to life.

INNOVATORS IN MUSIC presents Steve Earle in The Real Folk Blues.
