DAVE STEWART

As a 30-piece orchestra digs into the opening riff of his haunting track Sweet Dreams, DAVE STEWART, one of the most respected and accomplished artists in modern music, seems to enjoy a rare moment of looking back on his astonishing legacy.  Over the past 25 years, Stewart has sold more than 75-million albums worldwide with Eurythmics partner Annie Lennox.  But Stewart is already onto to his next creative idea well before the second chorus begins.

Bob Dylan describes Stewart as “a fearless innovator” and it is exactly that approach to his life and his work that has led him to become one of the most sought-after writers and music producers in the world.  It has also given Stewart the freedom to extend his talents well beyond the music studio.

Stewart produced the award winning documentary, Deep Blues and has directed numerous music videos. His first feature film, Honest, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000 and was described as a “cult classic” by the UK Times.

As a photographer, he has exhibited solo and in-group shows at The Paris Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum NYC and the Saatchi Gallery in London. Stewart’s photography has been at the centre of major ad campaigns and magazine covers.

Since 2000, Dave has written numerous songs with major artists and has shared the stage with everybody from BB King to The Edge, from Eric Clapton to Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan.

INNOVATORS IN MUSIC caught up with Mr. Stewart at the opening of his photography exhibit at the Morrison Hotel Gallery in New York’s Bowery district.

We see first hand his brilliant, larger than life-size portraits of Mick Jagger, Tom Petty, Bjork, Lou Reed, Sinead O’Conner, and more.  Dave opens up about his humble origins in Sunderland, his early love for blues music and Bob Dylan, his tremendous creative output with The Eurythmics, his lifelong pursuit to capture art’s vanishing “tinkerbell”, his photography, and his passion for artistic collaboration.

When Dave Stewart and his Rock Fabulous Orchestra hit the stage later that night at the Highline Ballroom, all bets are off.  This isn’t your Grandpa’s orchestra.  These guys rock.  And Dave’s songbook is so impressive and infectious, one just has to listen and smile.

INNOVATORS IN MUSIC is pleased to present the songs, music, ideas, thoughts, and photography of Dave Stewart in Talkin’ Rock n’ Roll Blues.
